Environmental Awards

If, like many travellers, you are concerned about your effect on the environment, the responsible way to travel is for you. By staying informed and making responsible travel choices you can minimize your effect as a tourist and help preserve natural environments, local economies and native cultures. Scubafish World are a Go ECO operator, a GREENFINS member, and support eco-friendly diving and responsible tourism. We are also proud winners of the 2010 PADI Project AWARE Marine Conservation Award, the 2007 Project AWARE Environmental Achievement Award and the EU Sustainable Tourism Award.

PADI and the Project AWARE Foundation recognise the achievements of, and honors dive operators around the world who display an exceptional commitment and excellence in their efforts to protect underwater environments within business operations and their community. Project AWARE Foundation Chairman, Dr. Drew Richardson recognizes the importance of taking action for protection of global ecosystems. “The Environment Achievement Award is about rewarding vision, excellence and pursuit of conservation. More importantly, this award ensures the enjoyment of underwater environments for future generations,” states Richardson. Environmental Achievement Award recipients operate in an environmentally responsible manner and demonstrate an outstanding commitment to conserving underwater environments through education, advocacy and action. All PADI Dive Centres and Resorts were considered for nomination by a specially convened selection panel, who selected up to three finalists for each of the awards. A panel of PADI judges then considered all of the finalists within each region and we are proud and delighted to announce that Scubafish/ Narima Diving are the winners of this year’s Project AWARE Marine Conservation Award for our region (Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar, Thailand and Vietnam).

Scubafish are proud recipients of the Environmental Achievement Award (2007) and Marine Conservation Award (2010).

Our Project AWARE Go ECO status was awarded in recognition of the environmentally friendly dive practices we follow and promote. The primary objective of Go ECO is for dive centres to minimise their impact on the aquatic ecosystem whilst contributing to environmental, economic and cultural conservation. Dive centres are required to meet best practice environmental guidelines and commit to the Project AWARE Go ECO philosophy. As a registered Go ECO Operator we are committed to providing dive experiences that enhance visitor awareness, appreciation and understanding of the local aquatic environment consistent with local resource conservation laws and conservation activities.

The Greenfins Project was founded in 2004, as a joint initiative implemented by the PMBC (Phuket Marine Biological Center), DMCR (Department of Marine and Coastal Resources) and is supported by UNEP (United Nations Environmental Programme) and The Reef World Foundation. Members share a dedication and common aim to protect the reef’s of Thailand through raising awareness and teaching ReefWatch methods for ongoing coral monitoring. To be accepted as a Greenfins member we undergo annual assessments as to our environmental practices (including dive briefings and dive practices), awareness and participation in coral reef restoration and monitoring, and adhere to a set code of conduct. Greenfins mission statement and aim is “To protect and conserve coral reefs by establishing and implementing environmentally friendly guidelines to promote a sustainable diving tourism industry.”
